Excerpt from the Book:

One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections.

My Thoughts

Gregor Samsa is the only one who works in his family. His parents and sister depend on him and his salary. But one day Gregor Samsa is incapable of going to work because he transformed into a giant bug.

A classic novella by Franz Kafka. I wanted to read it for a long time. Now I did. First, I read it in a book form. Then, I listened to an audiobook that was masterfully narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch. I liked this audio version and enjoyed his narration, even though I read the novella only one day earlier.

I would recommend this to those who like classic European literature.

About the Author:

Franz Kafka was born in 1883 in Prague, where he lived most of his life. During his lifetime, he published only a few short stories, including “The Metamorphosis,” “The Judgment,” and “The Stoker.” He died in 1924, before completing any of his full-length novels. At the end of his life, Kafka asked his lifelong friend and literary executor Max Brod to burn all his unpublished work. Brod overrode those wishes.
