Exerpt from the Book:
During the Beijing Olimpics in the summer of 2008, the world fell in love with Usain Bolt, the fastest human the world has ever known. Bolt won the 100-meter final in an astonishing 9.69 seconds, shattering his previous world record time. He had a relatively slow start off the blocks but kept picking up speed and passing other runners as he raced. He was so far ahead that with twenty meters to go, he slowed down to savor his victory, well before the race was over. His 100-meter sprint is quite likely the most memorable performance in track-and-field.
How can someone be so extraordinary that while racing against seven of the fastest humans on earth, in a race that lasts less than ten seconds, he has the time to slow down and celebrate even before reaching the finish line? Oh, and by the way, he was running with an untied shoelace.
My Thoughts:
The author examines the key factors that help people become exceptional. Exceptionals are people who are so extraordinary in their field and achieve things that are beyond any other. The author examines how those people become top 1% of the 1%, or in other words, how they become best of the best in their field.
The Exceptionals is a really good audiobook, but you should listen to it with caution. I would advise not to read or listen to it as a self-help or parenting book, but to know some facts about how these people can become exceptional and why this is possible in some cases. Reading or listening to this, you will have a wish to become one yourself. You can improve some things in your life. But I wouldn't suggest that you start transforming yourself or your children into exceptional beings. It can be overwhelming and doesn't necessarily lead to a better life.
Otherwise, it is an excellent read. The narration was very good and engaging.
