My Thoughts:

Lapvona was my first novel by Ottessa Moshfegh, and I have a feeling I didn’t start with the right one. But I enjoyed this tale of Lapvona and its people, even though it is a disturbing read. Set in a fictional town named Lapvona, in an undetermined time sometime in medieval times. Marek is a disabled shepherd boy without a mother.

We have dumb and unconcerned nobility who have everything on one and poor and hungry peasants on the other side. These two opposites and events in this novel are so exaggerated that, at moments, they turn out grotesque. Marek sees both sides, the rich and the poor.

This novel offers quite disturbing content. So if you don’t like that, I wouldn’t recommend it. I expected a bit more from this novel, some depth. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it. The writing was very good. So, I decided I want more of Ottessa Moshfegh.
