Excerpt from the Book:
The last hour of Eddie's life was spent, like most of the others, at Ruby Pier, an amusement park by a great gray ocean. The park had the usual attractions, a boardwalk, a Ferris wheel, roller coasters, bumper cars, a taffy sand, and an arcade where you could shoot streams of water into a clown's mouth. It also had a big new ride called Freddy's Free Fall, and this would be where Eddie would be killed, in an accident that would make newspapers around the state.
My Thoughts:
Eddie is a maintenance guy at the amusement park. He is an 83-year-old widower and a war veteran. The Five People you Meet in Heaven starts on the day of his death. In the afterlife, he meets five people that affected his life. Each reveals a part of his life, and that’s how we learn his life story. Although Eddie is lonely and bitter when he dies, through these encounters, he realizes that his life had a meaning.
I liked this short novel, but it didn’t grab me the way it should. This is why I gave it 3.5 stars and not more.
