Excerpt from the Book:
Happiness is rarely an outside job. It's when we look inside our homes, our relationships, and our lives that we find it hiding there. That's why a specific job title won't make you happy; the experiences you get to have as a result of that title lead to your professional happiness.
Likewise, an engagement ring doesn't make you happy. It's the experience of loving someone enough to commit to building a life together that produces your happiness.
Happiness is a lot easier to find than we've given it credit for, which is the real secret of practical happiness.
My Thoughts:
Practical Happiness is an audiobook for all who want to be happy but don’t know how to achieve that. As the author writes in her book, this is not as difficult as we often think.
The author writes about themes like how happiness is unique to you and is not the same for different people. And how, over time, what makes us happy can change. She includes many examples from people’s lives. Practical Happiness is a lightweight and very positive book that will make you think about your happiness and what you can do to be happier.
Narration by the author is good, but I think it could be better if someone else narrated it because it often feels a bit robotic.
About the Author:
Pamela Gail Johnson became a happiness advocate when she founded the Society of Happy People in 1998. As a mostly happy person, Pamela asked herself, “Where are all of the happy people?”
She created the first happiness holidays, which are now celebrated by millions of people worldwide:
• Hunt for Happiness Week
To help people expand and rethink happiness Pamela identified Thirty-One Types of Happiness and identified the Four Happiness Principles.
She’s been a frequent media guest on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, radio, podcasts, and her work has been covered by magazines, newspapers, and online publications.
Pamela’s professional experience includes working for the Hazelden Foundation, and in business development for Staples and American Express, where she received many awards for her sales results.
Currently, she’s known as the Practical Happiness Advocate, and helps organizations struggling with disengaged employees, burnout, and high turnover.
As a speaker, Pamela does keynote addresses, workshops, and other events.
