Excerpt from the Book:
There’ll be no trickery in what I’m about to share, no deceit. So let me say this from the start: there are many who think I’m a murderer. Worse than a murderer. A monster. A monster so monstrous that never before has a world seen such a monstrous monster. A bit melodramatic, to be sure, but it’s how I perceive these perceptions. You can imagine, can’t you? Knowing that such things are said about you? How that would make you feel?
What can I do, but tell you the truth? It’s the only thing that’s warranted.
Fair warning, this is a dark tale. Things will be said that you won’t believe - your heart will deceive you into thinking such darkness can’t exist in the world. I wouldn’t blame you.
My Thoughts:
First, my favorite kind of horror does not include serial killers like in The House of Tongues. Despite that, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel in audiobook form.
David Player tells his story about his teenage years’ trauma. He blocked
a lot of these memories throughout the years to help him cope. But now,
he must face his fears. Two timelines, now and when he was sixteen.
James Dashner created such a dense and dark atmosphere throughout this novel. It is like a thick fog descended on a swamp, and you have a feeling you can’t breathe. The mood was just like in the cover. Malcolm Hillgartner was a perfect narrator for this story. His voice emphasized the mood that the author initially created.
