Excerpt from the Book:
The sound of keys in the front door roused me from the sort of half awake, half asleep state I'd been in for more than an hour. It wasn't restfull, but my body knew I needed whatever rest I could get. I opened my eyes, sitting up straighter on the sofa. Caroline was asleep next to me, her feet resting on my lap, head at the other end. I eased her feet off of me carefully before standing, just in time to see Jude walk into the room.
"Hey," I said, my heart fluttering as I searched his face for any sort of emotion I recognized. "What happend? Did they find... anything?"
He slipped out of his wet jacket, dropping it and his keys onto the side table and looking over at Caroline. "She's asleep," I assured him. "Has been for a while."
He shook his head finally, keeping his voice low. "They're not going to be searching. It was all misunderstanding."
"A misunderstanding? What do you mean?"
He walked past me and to the left, heading into the kitchen and opening the refirigerator to pull out a can of soda. "Stephanie changed her statement. She was tired and said she realized it wasn't a car that she saw after all."
What? It seemed too good to be true. "Can she... do that?"
"She already has."
My Thoughts:
Someone’s missing.
Someone’s dead.
Everyone’s lying.
A very gripping psychological thriller. Our Little Secret will keep you on the edge of your seat. Small town, everyone knows everyone. Gossip is part of their everyday life. And everyone has their own secret.
This is a quick read. We learn about the story from multiple POVs. I liked it, but I found most characters annoying, and they were almost all so painfully shallow. Also, their dialogs were sometimes too simple and superficial.
Despite that, I would recommend it. This novel might be an excellent choice for fans of psychological thrillers looking for a lightweight and quick read.
There are two narrators in this audiobook: Mandy Kaplan narrated women's parts, and Wyatt Baker narrated men's parts. Both did an excellent job, and I liked both.
